Sammanfattning
This thesis reports on work to create user interface mock-ups based on user observations and interviews to improve Vehicle Information Diagnostics for Aftersales (VIDA). This application is managed by Volvo Cars Customer Service and is used worldwide by Volvo workshops. These mock-ups were evaluated by end-users in an iterative process in an effort to try to enhance the user experience and to eliminate problems with the user interface. VIDA includes many different types of functionality; there are ways to communicate with the Volvo car using a Bluetooth interface, update software in the car, find and read fault-tracing documents that help diagnose the problem, descriptions of how to remove faulty parts of the car, install new parts and also documents describing the design of specific parts. In VIDA there is a search function to help the users find these different spare parts, symptom codes or repair documents. But there have been complaints from the users that the search functionality in VIDA is not very good. Problems range from users ordering the wrong spare part to that the search for documents seems slow. As a result two concepts are described as use-cases and Photoshop/PowerPoint mock-ups. The conclusion is that the proposed concepts are promising but needs more testing to see if they really are more usable than the current version. But the reaction from users at the different workshops and personnel at Volvo Cars Customer Service show that it should be an increase in user satisfaction. This thesis shows that there are much room for improvements both in usability and in performance of VIDA.
