Sammanfattning
The linear programming Global Energy Transition (GET) model covers the global energy system and is designed to meet exogenously given energy demand levels, subject to a CO2 constraint, at the lowest system cost. The model can be used to better understand the role of different energy technologies in a future carbon constrained world and how the technologies fit into the larger global energy system, where different energy sectors compete for the same limited primary energy sources. In this thesis a new optimization environment was put together for the cost minimizing global energy system model GET-RC. This new optimization environment was written in the functional programming language of SCHEME implementing the GAMBIT compiler. As a result of the reimplementation a mathematical interpretation or linear combination that mapped the GET-model was made. The new model consists of only 7 variables but still can account for all functionality of the original model of about 45 variables. The model was then implemented into the new framework by a method based on six so called Simple models where the limited time frame of the project allowed for the first 3 models to be implemented in the new environment. The solving time for the reimplemented simple model 3 was proven to be twice as fast as the original version of simple model 3.
