Sammanfattning
In December 2014 the ferry Stena Danica was connected to the distributed heat network of Gothenburg. This was made in order to not run the vessels boilers while the ship was at port. This reduces the fuel consumption onboard while the vessel still keeps its interior temperatures at a normal level. This is a unique project that will save the harbors from unnecessary emissions and also reduce the vessels fuel consumption. There are other Swedish vessels connected to distribute heat systems, the Swedish icebreakers for instance. These vessels remain at port for long periods and therefore use the land based heating system in order to save fuel and to reduce the pollution. Until now the vessel has not been able to measure the fuel consumption of the boilers but as the new system comes online the vessel will be able to monitor the consumption of the system. The purpose of the project is to complete a case study in order to perform a heat balance calculation. This heat balance calculation can thereafter be used as a foundation to calculate the energy-index for the vessel and also locate any potential weaknesses in the system. Based on the result areas in need of improvement can be found to achieve a more efficient system with less losses. The heat balance can be defined as the sum of the sources of heat energy subtracted with the heat losses inside the climate shell. The difference in the calculation is the required energy needed to sustain a normal indoor temperature within the climate shell. The results show that Stena Danica has a satisfactory heat balance without any big losses and there are easy ways to save heat onboard. By regulating the ventilation systems to keep more heat and also lowering the temperature in the interior heat savings can be done.
