Sammanfattning
The work has been done as a case study with semi-structured interviews. The purpose of the study was to find a reason for the limited activity in the port of Lödöse, as well as the potential for expanding the business. By comparing the port with an analogous, the physical conditions have been determined as well as their impact on the business. Also, the future potential of the port has been investigated. Two different cases have been examined: what impact the implementation of the Directive 2006/87 for inland waterways will have for the port of Lödöse and if there are any potential in further investments in the current business segment. Lastly, interviews have been made with local businesses, which are seen as potential customers, in order to get to know their current flows of goods as well as their requirements and needs associated with the choice of transport. The reason for the limited port activity is believed to be partly because of a lack of business concept, partly because of the limitations in draft and thereby the ships that can be handled. When investigating the future potential of the port, the conclusion made was that a development within the existing segment would not be profitable. Instead, there is a larger potential within the inland waterways segment, especially in empty container handling. What makes this segment interesting is, among other things, the customers demand for storage. However, this is limited by the outcome of the final regulations. Therefore, the port is recommended to await the progress and then to do further studies.
