Title: Use of ICT tools focusing on construction projects.

Abstract: The construction industry is becoming more and more virtual in a sense of general collaboration. Project participants are more than ever creating virtual teams, where the participants are located in different locations. Therefore, in construction projects where virtual teams are used, communication is becoming one of the crucial factors. Communication approach can therefore influence the overall result of the project -and determine its success or failure. The high number of stakeholders in a project can determine whether the project communication may become complicated and difficult. Therefore, project outcome mostly depends on an effective communication between all participants. Mutual understanding, used methods and technology are the key factors for the project in order to be successful. Available information and communication technology (ICT) may help to overcome some of the issues when stakeholders are motivated and familiar with it. This paper is focusing on ICT, ICT tools and virtual teams and how these can support communication in construction projects during the construction phase. What are the benefits and challenges in the project communication when using ICT and virtual teams is also discussed later on. The paper is based on the particular case study, which was performed in a construction consultancy company on one construction project located in Czech Republic. The findings are based on the practice in the referencing company. The case study project communication uses various ICT tools and some benefits and challenges were recognized.
