Sammanfattning
Similar to industries like nuclear power plants and aviation, shipping has been facing a technology development where systems have become increasingly automated with more electronic components. The study has with help from reports from ForeSea, an anonymous incident reporting system, studied 58 relevant reports. A summary was then made of the types of errors that occur on board, the distribution among them, and their severity. The aim of the current study was to compile and make a risk assessment of electrical faults in the systems on board ships that have been reported to ForeSea. The study also examined the types of errors that are most common and how they are distributed between different types of faults. Notably, traditional faults such as damaged electrical wiring and short circuits, still accounted for the largest proportion of electrical malfunctions that occurs on board, despite the technical development towards more advanced systems and electronics. Most of the risk assessments regarding electrical faults are not particularly severe, and usually tests are executed to the systems before going in to port for example. It is at this time when the system is loaded differently that most errors occur, but because they are tested in advance the crew have time to fix the errors, or be aware of its limitations.
