Sammanfattning
Graphene is a new and intriguing material where its potential just has begun to be investigated. The material has been a major subject of discussion in areas such as paramedic, construction and electronics industries since its discovery 2004. This literature study contains an evaluation about the potential to use graphene in an antifouling coating. Further a comparison between copper based and graphene based antifouling coatings are performed to see the difference and the possible gains to change between those materials. Graphene is an allotrope of carbon in a hexagonal structure which makes a layer only one atom thick which have given the material some interesting characteristics. The material is the strongest ever measured, it has an antibacterial ability and have corrosion inhabitant ability. Results from earlier studies shows that the characteristic features of graphene have an ability to make up and serve as a good antifouling coating but further testing of the coating is required. The comparison with copper based coatings shows foremost an environmental gain can be made with graphene use, especially in the reduction of the amount of booster biocides and copper in the sediment and the free water masses which would favor the marine environment.
