Sammanfattning
VM-Trailer manufactures and delivers trailers, wheelers, tractor trailer bodyworks and various specialized bodyworks for trucks. On their trailers intended for carrying forestry machines, there is a folded pulling device at the back, in case the driver wants to pull another trailer. The pulling device has the capacity to pull a maximum weight of eight tons with a safety factor of three, the extra trailer is often a personal wagon or something similar. According to the customer, the positioning of the pulling device doesn’t allow for easy usage and coupling. This thesis describes the process of redesigning off the pulling device, with associated strength calculation, CAD-models, FEM-calculations and drawings. The project didn’t include any economic aspects, manufacturing processes, choice of material, customer surveys or prototyping. The questions to be answered: How should the pulling device be designed to satisfy the costumers needs? How do we fasten it to the trailer? How can it be hidden when it’s not in use? How can it be built to pull eight tons? The idea generation resulted in five concepts, where two passed the first selection process. To develop the selected concepts, CAD software was used, where different correlations and iterations of the concept were facilitated using FEM analysis. A final concept was selected taking in consideration the client requirements, tension and deformation studies and usability of the device. The result was a different placement of the connection point, which allowed for a design that facilitated hiding of the structure, that had the capacity to pull eight tons with a safety factor of three without approaching the yield point.
