Sammanfattning
Abstract Physical ergonomic evaluation of truck ingress/egress requires planning, space, access to vehicles or functional ingress models, and a number of respondents. However, the most important tool for carrying out evaluations is the evaluation method. At Volvo 3P worldwide, different sites have historically used different procedures and guidelines when carrying out tests of this kind. Depending on the configuration of the truck, the stage of development and local knowledge, evaluation methods at different sites vary immensely. At the same time, the different sites want to take part of each other’s knowledge and test results. The objectives for this thesis were therefore to study the evaluation methods being used at different sites, with focus on the methods used at the Volvo 3P Göteborg site. From this study, a suggestion for a new evaluation method was to be developed, based on requirements established from previous ergonomic studies and the ambitions of the different sites. The thesis project involved a literature study, including documentation of previous ingress evaluations. This was followed by an observation of a large-scale ingress study. After this, the thesis author planned and carried out two internal evaluation tests of two truck ingress concepts, with eleven and sixteen respondents respectively. The first evaluation was based on a previous test protocol used at Volvo 3P Göteborg, and evaluated a modified concept compared to a well-known reference model (the Volvo FH). In the second evaluation, the thesis author incorporated several previously unused methods from ergonomic method literature. The use of visual elements as a feedback form was also introduced. As a complementary source of information, an analysis method called REBA (Rapid Entire Body Assessment) was tested to assess harmful postures caught on film during entry and exit into the truck cabs. The evaluations carried out by the thesis author resulted in two internal result reports for the evaluated truck ingress concepts. The second test also evaluated how successfully the new test procedure elements had been implemented. The thesis author found that some elements were more successful than others, and suggested changes to the method. The final result of the thesis project is a manual for preparing, carrying out and analyzing ergonomic evaluation of truck ingress, a document called “Step Right Up!” Key words: ergonomic methods, evaluation, respondents, user-centered design, population, truck ingress, egress, user studies
