- PostComparison of CLC with existing CCS technologies: based on Energy, Exergy and Techno-economic analysisPramode, Avinash; Dhait, Abhie; Chalmers tekniska högskola / Institutionen för kemi och kemiteknik; Chalmers University of Technology / Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering; Leion, Henrik; Dattarao Surywanshi, GajananClimate change is an immediate global crisis that is driven by the accumulation of greenhouse gases, primarily carbon dioxide, in the Earth´s atmosphere. Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technologies play a pivotal role in reducing our carbon footprint as we move towards a more sustainable future. This study aims to compare four different carbon capture technologies and evaluate them based on techno-economic analysis, energy analysis and exergy analysis. The four technologies under evaluation are chemical looping combustion (CLC), oxy-fuel combustion, post-combustion, and pre-combustion. The process modelling of the four systems for a selected combined heat and power (CHP) plant is used to carry out this comparison, which is next followed by energy, energy-related, and economic analysis. The modelling of these four plants was conducted using Aspen Plus simulation software and validated using the results given in the literature. The study reveals that the CLC capturing technology outperforms other CCS processes regarding cost efficiency, CO2 capture rate and electrical efficiency. The highest overall efficiency was observed for Oxyfuel combustion but the CLC plant has the best net electric efficiency. For the CLC model, An almost pure stream of CO2 is extracted from the Fuel reactor which is then subsequently compressed after heat extraction. The CLC has the highest CO2 capture rate among the four models for this reason. From the exergy analysis, it becomes clear that the most exergy destruction takes place in the combustion process for all the cases and that it needs to be optimized to improve overall efficiency. The comparison of the overall exergy destruction of the models shows us that CLC has the least exergy destroyed and thus has the highest exergy efficiency, despite incurring higher initial expenses, CLC displays the lowest levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) and payback period when compared with all the other technologies. This indicates that CLC has been estimated to be the most economical choice over the long term, despite necessitating a more substantial initial expenditure. To sum up, this case study offers insightful information about the advancement of CLC technology and its advantage over competing carbon capture solutions. The results provide a useful manual for energy sector decision-makers, highlighting how important it is to select the appropriate carbon capture and combustion technology with the intent to optimise performance and economics
- PostSpeech enhancement for non-stationary noise around a machine cabinZhou, Yiliang; Chalmers tekniska högskola / Institutionen för arkitektur och samhällsbyggnadsteknik (ACE); Chalmers tekniska högskola / Institutionen för arkitektur och samhällsbyggnadsteknik (ACE); Ahrens, Jens; Frenne, NicklasThis thesis is mainly concerned with the solution for speech enhancement in the presence of non-stationary noise around the machine cabin. This allows outside speech to enter the cabin and reduces unwanted noise. The application scenario of this work is a signal processing system using a microphone array outside the cabin to capture signals and using different algorithms to enhance the speech signals. With the help of this system, the machine operator is able to get speech information in a noisy environment. The noise sources in this situation are more complex and non-stationary. Examples of noise sources include engine noise, traffic noise, or other construction activities. Previous work done by Tomoya chose the microphone array configuration and developed the beamforming method. From the results of the valuable work, it is found that beamforming is able to increase the signal-to-noiseratio (SNR) in the current situation, but the sound quality and SNR are still limited due to the low input SNR and non-stationary noise environment. Therefore, modified beamforming and new methods are implemented in this work. noise cancellation(NC) predicts the transfer path for the noise signal and removes it by controlling the minimum error of the output. Noise suppression(NS) uses the scheme of spectral subtraction to subtract the noise spectrum from noisy speech spectrum. A combination of beamforming and noise cancellation and a combination of beamforming and noise suppression method are developed and evaluated. The result shows a better performance for this low input SNR and non-stationary noise case.

- PostEffects of Heat Treatment on Residual Stresses in Additive ManufacturingKristensen, Rasmus; Chalmers tekniska högskola / Institutionen för industri- och materialvetenskap; Chalmers University of Technology / Department of Industrial and Materials Science; Hryha , Eduard; Karslsson , Henrik; Alkaisee, RashaMetal additive manufacturing (AM) is constantly developing and expanding into new segments. The automotive industry has so far not implemented AM to any larger extent. One reason is the relatively high cost of AM-components, but mainly due to the materials that are available is not used to a larger extent within the automotive sector e.g. titanium and stainless steel. Powder Bed Fusion–Laser Beam (PBF– LB), the most developed metal AM-method had, until recently, a limited range of materials available. However, recently several low-alloyed carbon-containing steels, that are commonly used in vehicles and machined components have been developed. One issue with increased carbon content is that the material has shown to be difficult to manufacture with PBF–LB. Moreover, heat treatment and its influence on residual stresses, microstructure and hardness are not yet known. This thesis focuses on the residual stresses and how they are affected by the heat treatment on samples printed in a low alloy medium carbon steel, 42CrMo4 (AISI 4140). The heat treatments applied in this thesis were not intended to be optimised for 42CrMo4, but rather investigate a more industrial approach using relatively standard heat treatment cycles. After analysing the different heat treated samples it was found that in a regular quench and temper cycle, the parts achieved similar hardness as conventionally manufactured 42CrMo4 using the same heat treatment. Samples exposed to a direct temper cycle, hence just tempered as-printed, showed promising results in terms of residual stresses. This knowledge may serve as a basis to further research and development of heat treatment cycles to better utilise 42CrMo4 steels in the automotive sector

- PostFörutsäga tillgänglighet och pris för snabbladdning av elektriska personbilar/ Availability and price for electric vehicle fast chargingLindbom, Olle; Zavol Deylami, Diana; Kula, Lech Kazimierz; Lüning, Algot; Jonasson, Eskil; Keyhanfar, Nickie; Chalmers tekniska högskola / Institutionen för elektroteknik; Chalmers University of Technology / Department of Electrical Engineering; Ehnberg, Jimmy; Grauers, AndersAbstract This thesis addresses the increasingly critical issue of the availability and pricing of fast charging stations for electric vehicles. With the rise in electric vehicle usage, the demand for efficient and rapid charging solutions has become paramount. The study utilizes agent-based modeling techniques to simulate the behavior of electric vehicle charging systems under varying conditions of supply and demand. The aim is to provide a nuanced understanding of how different variables such as queuing times, station availability, charging speed, and pricing strategies impact user experience and profits. The simulation models queue formation and waiting times at fast charging stations, offering insights into potential bottlenecks. The research also evaluates the economic viability of various charging infrastructures and explores the balance between charging costs and accessibility. It is worth noting that this thesis only considers one type of electric vehicle and assumes a static electricity price. Key findings indicate that future electric vehicle drivers will have access to fast chargers with prices reflecting current levels. An increased number of chargers exponentially reduces waiting times and decreases the variability of waiting times. A linear increase in the number of chargers is necessary to meet the growing demand. Market research indicated that many drivers prioritize charging speed over lower prices. In comparison, fast-chargers with maximum 250 kW power economically outperform 150 kW fast-chargers, therefore 250 kW chargers are preferred on highways with consistent traffic. Besides, lowering prices during periods of low demand increase profits.
