dc.description.abstract | The running shoe experience is an important factor when choosing what shoe to buy. Since there are all kinds of runners, regular exercisers to elite athletes, most individuals have different preferences. This is the reason why there are so many different shoe structures on the market. By mapping these individual preferences in a survey, it could be found that some of them were more important than others depending on running type. Flexibility and cushioning are two parameters that are measured and presented in the running magazine Runner’s World. The measuring instruments are hard to access and the information about them is limited. Therefore, the main purpose was to reproduce their measures by producing two designs, one for cushioning and one for flexibility. By doing literature reviews a standard could be found, which was used to develop the cushioning product. When developing the flexibility concept, a few existing products were studied. A product was produced for cushioning and a concept was developed for flexibility. The requirements for the flexibility concept were fulfilled, although the concept requires further development to become a complete product. Functional tests were made on the cushioning product in order to verify that it met the requirements in its product design specification. To check the precision of the design a material test was performed. Thereafter shoes were tested and compared to each other. Finally a shoe that had been in Runner’s World was tested and compared to the published result. To be able to get a deeper understanding and to interpret the result, more shoes would have been needed. The final cushioning product is a suitable tool to study running shoes cushioning qualities and facilitates development of running shoes. This report is written in Swedish. | |
