This study makes use of confocal raman spectroscopy to exam- ine the interaction bwteen water and teflon membranes. The teflon membrane's properties makes it an important component in research about water purification. To study the water gradient in the teflon membrane, measurements were made on a naflon membrane. Apart from the conclusion that the chosen method (raman spectroscopy) can not be used for measurements on teflon membranes, the study has concluded that when natrium chloride is added to water, the membrane's capacity of absorption is reduced. The measurements have resulted in a water profile for the naflon membrane when it has been allowed to absorb water and two different salt solutions. No conclusions regarding the teflon membrane's properties can, however, be derived from the experiments. An unexpected result occured during experiments on a naflon membrane that had absrobed a litium triflate solution, in the form of a peak in intensity with no correspondence in any reference measurements. This peak suggests that the litium triflate solution reacts or interacts with the naflon membrane. Unfortunately, this proves nothing regarding the teflon membrane.
