Sammanfattning
In an increasingly digitalized and connected world it appears important to cultivate healthy and constructive relationships between humans and technology. In this the sis, a speculative design has been created and evaluated with the aim of triggering discussions around the consequences of technology on mental health among young adults. The thesis investigates if a prominent user centered focus could enrich a speculative design so that it appeals to the general public and specifically to young adults. A thorough user study was conducted and the target group was constantly considered throughout the whole project process. The final speculative design is a wearable that harvests the user’s body heat in order to generate electricity in a fictional future where electricity is scarce and society does not want to give up the comforts of technology. The evaluation proved that the speculative design clearly connected to the target group due to aspects of the product that was based on the user study. This validates that the user centered approach did enrich the de sign. Continuing, the result shows a rich data set on the target groups opinions, dreams and fears for the future of technology in relation to mental health as well as discussions on different aspects of design that the user group appreciates.
