This bachelor’s thesis aims to research the possibility of digitalizing the emergency medical record used within the ambulance care in Västra Götalands Regionen in the Sahlgrenska University area. The digital medical record should allow both ma nual and speech recognition journaling. The software used in this project for speech recognition is Dragon Medical One by the company Nuance Communications. The purpose of digitalizing the emergency medical record is to reduce the amount of in formation which could be forgotten or lost when keeping a journal. By doing this the safety of the patients will increase and the workload of the ambulance staff decrease. The project began with comprehensive data collection from interviews and obser vations in the ambulance and literary studies. The observations in the ambulance showed that the emergency medical record is first journalized on paper in the am bulance and then handed to the emergency staff at the hospital before the medical record is redone in AmbuLink. The interviews concluded that many of the ambu lance staff had positive views regarding the use of speech recognition. Based on the collected data a requirement specification was created and used to start the ideation and concept development process. A prototype of the emergency medical record was made in Microsoft Excel based on the requirements specification. The developed concept was evaluated at the end of the project. One of the goals of the prototype was its compatibility with Dragon Medical One, which was fulfilled. The conclusion that can be drawn from the project is that the developed prototype paves the way for a new working method within ambulance medical care that can ultimately lead to improvements regarding record keeping. However, adjustments and improvements must be made to the prototype before it can be implemented in the current ambulance medical care.
