dc.description.abstract | This master’s thesis investigates a novel approach to procedural modeling using shape grammars. Model Design Grammars (MDG), a derivative of Context-Free Design Grammars (CFDG), are presented as a powerful tool for constructing threedimensional models. Part of the thesis is about how to represent transforms, such as rotations, reflections and translations using quaternions. We study the use of production rules to generate hierarchical procedural models and we add the notion of compound transformations for animating objects in a bone hierarchy. We show how the same idea can be used as an additional tool for procedural modeling. We show that there exists an equivalent representation of a 0L-system as an MDG grammar. | |
