The goal of this master thesis work is to create a software interface for providing business intelligence to aid in improving the microwave transmission evaluation process. The Ericsson department, in which this thesis was performed, is called PDU (I&V). This department is in charge of integration and verification tests for the microwave products called Mini-link which are shown on the front page picture. Mainly they verify many different parameters in the testing process. This study is trying to make the testing process faster and more efficient. This will, however, be done indirectly by obtaining information about when, where and why testing problems occur, not how to solve them. During the process of integration and verification, a lot of information is collected from every test. There is a need to gather all this information and develop a performance metric which displays the overall status of the department. The chosen metric is yield, which is described as the rate of positive test results over negative test outcomes. Based on testing performance, a positive result happens when a test is performed quickly, and a negative result occurs when the testing process encounters some errors and needs to be redone or it may take a long time to be finished. The fundamental idea is that through gathering most of this testing data in some clever way and then developing a business intelligence tool which can visualize this data in a simple way, statistics will be able to reveal a place/time from which most problems are emerging from. Consequently, those parts can be further studied to improve the system. It is also helpful to get this yield to determine whether or not improving effort actually enhances the performance. Furthermore, this metric can be used for other purposes such as a better scheduling for the system based on more accurate time estimation of carrying out a test to present how well the department is working to external stakeholders. All the tasks which have been successfully completed and the steps taken to make this happen will be explained in detail throughout this thesis. The major parts comprise of designing the database to store all the information, transferring data from the current file structure to the new database, investigating a place in which most errors are emerging from, and creating a graphical interface visualizing the yield to determine important information about the current state of the testing process.
