Sammanfattning
What type of gasket is suitable for a certain medium and how do you make a flanged joint sealed are the questions this report will answer. The report takes the following mediums, which are common in engine room onboard, a vessel, into account: steam, exhaust gases, cooling water (HT/LT), compressed air (7 & 30 bars), lube oil, fuel oil (diesel & HFO), sea water and LNG. The purpose of the report is to be a guideline on how to choose the right material and show why this is important and also describe how to create a sealed flanged joint. There are many different kinds of gasket materials and therefore the number of materials in this report has been reduced to the most common used in the engine room. These are often sheet materials and have to be processed by the crew onboard. The result showed that to choose the suitable material you need to have knowledge about the medium and the material. The result showed that besides to choose right material for the medium, there are other important factors to take into account when making a sealed flanged joint. Table 8 and 9 are products of the results. The methods to answer the question were: semi structured interview, questionnaire, written interviews and written sources
