Sammanfattning
This master thesis has been carried out in cooperation with BAE Systems Hägglunds AB in Örnsköldsvik during the spring and summer of 2006. The purpose of the thesis has been to develop a concept for semi-active suspension to CV90 (Combat Vehicle 90). The suspension system for CV90 consists of trailing arms, torsion bars and rotary friction dampers. Each damper contains a wet lamella clutch brake which is pressurized by a piston connected to the trailing arm. The damper operates according to the ground-hook theory where damping torque is proportional to the trailing arm velocity. Because the passive damping system is a compromise between comfort and performance BAE Systems Hägglunds AB wants to replace the passive system with a semi-active. The work carried out has been divided in six areas of special interest, which has been investigated. These are control strategy, sensors and signals, hydraulics, construction, control system and electronics and simulation. The result is presented in two concepts, Aurora and Meduza, which both adjust the dampers depending on the vertical velocity of the vehicle body. Meduza is developed from the original passive damper while Aurora is based on externally generated pressure applied at a lamella clutch brake. The performance of both concepts is compared with the original passive damper through dynamic simulations in ADAMS/ATV (All Tracked Vehicle). Studied during the simulations is the risk of impact while driving over a jump course and pitch- and roll accelerations while driving over the APG terrain course. The result from the simulations shows that both concepts decreases the pitch and roll accelerations and maintain or increase the distance to impact. Aurora shows consistently a better result than Meduza. The pitch and roll accelerations simulated while driving in 40 km/h over the APG-course decreases compared to the original passive damper whit 40.6 % respectively 36.8 % for Aurora and 37.6 % respectively 31.7 % for Meduza.
