Sammanfattning
Fire on board a ship is always a threat towards its safety. The risk of a fire can never be fully avoided completely, therefore it is important to have a functioning fire organization on board the vessel. A well-functioning fire organization can be the difference between a successful operation and a total loss of the vessel. The idea of this study is to try and find improvements in the fire organization, the exercises on board, the training on land and to investigate the need for extra training in regards to the new propellants of methanol and Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) being integrated in the market. There will also be focus on what can be changed on board in the form of technical solutions and also on newly built ships. The method used in this study is based on interviews conducted with personnel that work at sea on ships and people on land that work with training seafarers within Basic Safety and Advanced Fire Fighting (AFF). The interviews that were conducted were semi-structured to allow the participants to speak freely about the questions asked. The participants were anonymous in this study. The study shows that a good exercise culture on board is an important part of the fire organization on board. The results show that there is a demand for complementary fire extinguishing systems. You can also see a need for extra training in regards to fire fighting of methanol and gas related fires. The remainder of this study is written in Swedish.
