Abstract This report describes a product development project of a dumbwaiter. The thesis was carried out on behalf of Arvo Siösteen via Etteplan Sweden AB in Gothenburg. In connection with Siösteen having built a new home, the idea arose to allow space for a vertical dumbwaiter between the garage and the kitchen. Siösteen wanted to investigate whether the idea was possible to realize and that became the thesis background. The construction will extend from the garage floor to the kitchen counter. The main questions of the project are aimed at the manufacturing possibility regarding delimitations and commercial applicability. The goal of the project has been to develop a final concept. After completion of the project, the concept shall be possible to manufacture by Etteplan, strive to meet the standard and ultimately function practically in the residence. The project was preformed mainly at Etteplan in Gothenburg and Chalmers campus Lindholmen. After a profound research on the subject a concept development began, various concepts were generated and compared with each other. The elimination of partial solutions was made possible by external competence consisted of an elevator company, workshop personnel at Etteplan and Arvo Siösteen. The final concept consists mainly of four parts: frame, lifting plate, elevator car and mechanical stop. The car is mounted on the lifting plate which is driven by a timing belt system within the frame. The mechanical stop is attached to the frame and should protect the motor mounted in the garage floor. The communication system consists of a keypad in the garage and a wireless remote control in the kitchen. Transducers and door sensors must be connected in a closed circuit. Resulting that of a door opens during operation, the power cuts off. The project has not taken the programming of the elevator's communication system into account. The project showed that it’s possible to manufacture the elevator with the premise that non-met restrictions yet be considered approved by building authority. The final concept is perceived to be safe and volume efficient. Work that remains is to complete the communication system with choice of sensors and programming. Thereafter the manufacturing and installation of the elevator at the residence remains.
