Sammanfattning
A roller bearing manufacturer has, with the help of a RAMP analysis, evaluated the working
steps of a mounting line in their factory. The analysis resulted in several of the work steps
executed being heavily loaded. Considering this analysis, they want to develop a new
mounting jig. The aim of the degree project is therefore to develop a concept for a new
mounting jig that improves ergonomics and reduces the force that fitters apply.
To understand the complicated assembly process required to assemble large bearings, several
observations of different bearing sizes were made. It was realized that assembly principles
differ between different families, where a specific family of bearings was identified as
difficult to assemble. It is this family of bearings (problem bearings) that the work is focused
on.
After observations of the assembly process, a requirements specification was drawn up. This
was done to compile the functions that the jig performs or wishes to perform. With the help of
requirements specification, patent application and further observations of already existing
solutions internally at the company, various concepts were generated.
The concepts generated were evaluated and gradually eliminated. This was done until only
one concept remained. This was carried out with the help of a focus group set up by the
project's manager Mofid Zaia.
The resulting concept is a jig that can adjust working height like a telescopic leg. The jig is
placed on rails and can therefore adjust the distance between them. This enables mounting of
the different sizes of bearings that the bearing line mounts. To perform rotation between inner
ring and holder, two different types of methods are used. When mounting the first row of
rollers, the rotation is executed by using a rotating chain. When the second roller row is to be
mounted, the rotation is done with the help of a platform that grips the outer ring of the
bearing and transmits the rotation via the already mounted roller row. The concept performs
all functions mechanically, which means a reduced force from fitters and a step towards
automation
