Abstract

A device at Chalmers University of Technology, that is used in the study of control systems has become worn out after 20 years and must be replaced. The current device is based on analog technology should be upgraded to a digital platform. This report deals with the technical systems used to develop such a system. The development of small, simple, powerful, and inexpensive microcontroller cards allows for easy replacement of older analog hardware with digital hardware with significantly better performance. A PID-controller was developed and deployed to a Arduino microcontroller card. A LCD display and a touch screen was used to display information to the user and to develop the software two different developing environment, Arduino IDE and Microsoft Visual Studio, were used. An alternative PID-controller was developed in conjunction with LabView software.
