Abstract

This study delves the medical records onboard ships and also study the level of knowledge among health care managers onboard regarding the regulations. The selection of ship segments are passenger ships and merchant ships to identify possible variations between the segments regarding medical record keeping. The study will show the routines regarding the patient medical record keeping and will show the actual knowledge level about the rules and laws that govern it. The study also delves attitudes regarding patient medical record keeping amongst the healthcare personal onboard. The results in the study show that the medical records is kept onboard ships, even though with various results. Even differences in handling, safekeeping and development of the routines is included in the results. The report discusses the problems surrounding the regulations and of governmental procedures and interpretations on the subject. It highlights different suggestions for measures to improve and increase expertise onboard vessels healthcare crew and minimize any mistakes.
