This rapport describes a bachelor thesis that's made possible in cooperation with Plastal and Chalmers University of Technology in the spring of 2020. Plastal is a company that injection molds and distributes plastic components such as bumpers and side panels for the automotive industry. The purpose of this work is to see if it's possible for Plastal to make injection molded tailgates. In that case Plastal could expand their business and compete with companies that are already on the market and making injection molded tailgates. For the thesis workers to receive sufficient knowledge about injection molding they had a field trip to one of Plastals factories and got the chance to have a injection molding course at Plastals main offices. A big part of this thesis is mapping out the existing market of tailgates in plastic. This is done by researching the market to see which car models already have plastic tailgates and whom is making them. Three tailgates were brought in from different car models to break to component level, to reverse engineer and see how they were made. After a thorough examination of exsisting tailgates together with brainstorming and workshops with Plastal it was possible to present two concept proposals. One of them has a more conventional and proven construction, while the other one has a more nuance and not as implemented on the market today. The pilot study and concept proposal is meant to be the foundation and act as a recommendation for a secondary bachelor/master thesis, where the focus point will be the construction and design of the injection moulded tailgate
