Sammanfattning
Uddeholms AB is an old Swedish company that has produced steel for more than 350 years. To continue to be a world-leading company of tool steel, it is necessary to have a modern and competitive production process. Especially at this time when digitization and automation are two of the hottest topics in industry.
The work is based on Uddeholms AB's demand for digitization of its production. They want to see how simulations and a digital twin can benefit them as a company. For instances they would like to use simulation as a tool to evaluate the need of a new investment. The work includes a production cell in one of their production departments called MB2, at Uddeholms AB factory in Hagfors, where steel rods of different lengths, diameters and materials are produced. The production cell has five machines. Two shell lathes, a straightening machine, an inductive machine (steel control), and a cutting machine.
The goal is to construct a digital twin according to the conditions that are present in the cell and also create a model that can simulate the flow of steel through the cell. The program Visual Components was used to create the simulation model. Uddeholms AB has an interest to simulate the cell, and also simulate the cell with an extra steel straightening machine. The model could work as a basis for a future investment or a basis for other kinds of production development decisions.
