Abstract The purpose of the thesis was to study a production flow in a manufacturing factory. This to examine how a decrease in conveyor length between two machines would affect the production flow for production line 1 at Company A. The reason for this study is to get an insight on what a change in the layout would mean before any changes are made to the real production. The production flow was analyzed using a virtual model of the current production that was created in the software Visual Components Premium 4.0.5. To assure that the current virtual model mirrors reality it was validated in three ways. Statistically, functionally and visually. The conveyor length in the model was successively decreased to see how the production flow would be affected. To give the model a better visual representation of the physical production CAD models of the two major machines on line 1 were used. These machines are a rotation filler and a packing machine. A 3D scan of the premises was also made as visual support for the improvement suggestion. The result showed that a decrease in conveyor length between the two machines did not decrease the number of produced products. The length, the area and also the throughput for the products were however decreased significantly. The conclusion is that a major decrease in conveyor length can theoretically be made without a major impact on production line 1. Although other resulting problems should be taken in to a count. Like for example the condensation that could form on the outside of the containers when they are filled with cold produce. The condensation has previously caused some difficulty in applying the stickers to the now moist surfaces of the containers.sv
