Abstract
Nanset church was the first Arbeidskirke in Larvik. It is situated on a small hill in Hovland, Larvik, in the middle of a residential area. The idea was to create a more functional space that could bring the congregation together and be socially beneficial and a vibrant, close and accessible church. Elisabeth Breen Fidjestøl won the competition to design Nanset church with her project “Levende stener” (living stones). The church is mainly constructed in red brick and the church hall holds 550 seats. It was completed in 1974 and consecrated the 31 of March by bishop Dagfinn Hauge. In 1984 it was completed with an altar carpet by artist Else Marie Jakobsen.
