Eurocodes represent an important tool for structural designers in the European Union since they establish a common framework for the design of structures while simultaneously fulfilling safety and serviceability requirements. However, the current codes are based on methods, theories, and data that need to be updated to the current state-of-the-art, a task for EU member states. SS-EN 1992-1-1:2023 Eurocode 2 for concrete structures is part of a second generation of standards that will be used in Europe. Production of the new Eurocode is still in progress, the new Eurocode will become effective by July 2027, and the current version will have been replaced completely by March 30th, 2028. The thesis aims to describe the differences between the new SS-EN 1992-1-1:2023 Eurocode 2 and the current version (SS-EN 1992-1-1:2005 + SS-EN 1992-2:2005), and explain how these differences will impact the design and implementation of concrete structures. A literature study was made, where the two Eurocodes were compared, and potential reasons for the changes were discussed. This was further investigated in a parametric study, in which the structural capacity of a simplified concrete slab was investigated using both versions of the Eurocode, and differences were identified. In addition, a case study was performed for an existing concrete bridge where sectional capacities were re-evaluated using the new standard. It was found that several important design criteria had been subjected to major revisions in the new Eurocode. These changes were found to result in a higher shear capacity in many design situations, especially for simply supported edges. An increase in bending moment and shear capacity was also observed for sections with a depth of more than 200 mm. The capacity in Servicability Limit States due to crack control was found to be higher for bars placed at the bottom of a slab. However, bars in the top face were found to have a similar capacity to the current Eurocode. Furthermore, a significant increase in anchorage length was observed for bars with a diameter larger than 16 mm.
