dc.description.abstract | This case study of a logistics service provider (Company X) is an example of how companies respond to customer demands and stakeholder expectations by prioritising sustainability. Motivated by one of its major customers, a leading manufacturer of vehicles and machinery, Company X is trying to introduce more sustainable practices. Therefore, Company X wants to replace diesel forklifts with electric ones, thereby reducing its environmental footprint. The thesis examines Company X's requirements and challenges in creating an optimal environment for introducing a fully electric forklift fleet. The methodology used is a mixed method and case study, using qualitative and quantitative approaches to fully understand the company's current situation and the factors affecting its sustainability goals. The findings provide several recommendations for Company X. The first recommendation highlights the importance of making sustainability goals visible and promoting a culture of sustainability. The second suggests transitioning to a new electrified forklift fleet with Li-ion batteries as the power source. The third proposes improvements to the infrastructure and facilities, as well as moving the charging area to a shielded area separate from the open gates. Finally, it is also recommended to improve the layout and operational processes through a category-based layout. This thesis provides valuable insights and practical guidance for Company X and contributes to a broader understanding of sustainable practices in the logistics and warehousing industry. Company X can make significant progress towards more environmentally conscious organisations by incorporating industry best practices and adopting effective strategies. The recommendations will help the company achieve its sustainability goals and optimise its processes. | |
