Every year 1500 medical students graduate in Sweden. During the COVID-19 pandemic most of the educations had to transform from being mostly analog to being held digitally remotely. To make the transformation possible digital aids were used which has also been proven to promote active learning and engage students. Hypocampus is Sweden´s leading digital study platform for medical students and is currently used by 150 000 university students, doctors, professionals and high school students. Their vision is to raise the knowledge level of the medical profession by using cognitive and educational science. The platform includes fact-based literature with associated questions, curricula and practice exams. Today there are only web versions of Hypocampus with the same codebase and no mobile application. This causes some disadvantages as the same interface must operate on a computer as well as on a mobile phone. The possible interactions are also limited. A need for a mobile application has been expressed by Hypocampus users, however because they are a start up company the resources are limited and carefully spent. By having a discussion with the company, the project was established with the purpose to develop an interactive mobile application prototype to investigate the differences between the two platforms, and to see if the mobile application is perceived as a more accessible platform and how the usability is experienced. Through a user-centered process with initial interviews, concept development and two user experiments the question formulation was answered. The project resulted in a prototype with a design consistent with Hypocampus’ identity where the functionality is adapted to better suit a mobile
