The development of new types of aircraft that start and land vertically with zero emission and noise is moving forward at a rapid pace. Several developers are in the process of certifying their aircraft in the next coming years. If these novel aircraft are to be used in Sweden, there must be preparations made by the flying industry. This thesis has studied the technical and operational requirements made by novel aircraft and what is the best manner for integrating them in to the already existing air-infrastructure. The thesis is based on literature research and interviewing actor in the airport market and actors who are active in this sector. The thesis began with analyzing the market, the major developers of AAM(Advanced Air Mobility) and the technology being utilized the make personal transport with these aircraft a reality. A large focal point has been the Lithium battery technology(LIB) and the challenges and opportunities associated with LIBs. The research has shown that battery technology is not an obstacle for market introduction but to gain better capacity and range novel battery technology is required. Batteries with silicon anodes and solid state electrolytes has been identified as the next major breakthroughs that could propel AAM to new heights. The results of the interviews and internal workshops has shown that there is a possibility to integrate AAM in to the current airports but there is great uncertainty regarding the regulations of the controlled airspace around airports. The certification procedures and rules are adequate for developing the aircrafts, but other aspects of operations are not codified yet and aren’t expected until the year 2024. The developers and operators of AAM believe that airports will play a major role initially due to the presence of already existing airinfrastructure and knowledge of managing air traffic. The perception in the long run is that AAM will move away from major airports to more regional airports and independent vertiports.
