Sammanfattning
This thesis aims to develop a concept for how the battery placement in an electric trailer can be packaged to reduce the risk of damage or accidents related to the battery packs. A CAD model has been created where the placement of the battery pack has been moved to the center of the trailer for better positioning. Additionally a protective cage has been installed around the battery packs for extra protection and the cage also serves as a bottom protection in case the trailer hits something from below.
The e-trailer is designed according to the dimensions of a standard German semi-trailer with a total length of 13.6 meters. Furthermore the trailer has three axles of which the rear one is self-steering and the middle one is driven. The mounted battery packs consist of four of Volvo’s cube batteries.
The result of the work is an electric trailer where the battery packs are positioned more safely within the trailer without sacrificing the battery capacity as well as a simpler frame construction compared to previous e-trailers designed by Volvo
