The climate changes that are occuring in the world have resulted in that the EU calling for a 20 % reduction in energy consumption to the year 2020, to reach that goal the EU want the public sector to go forth as a good example. Västfastigheter owns and manage the hospital buildings in the Västra Götaland region. To be able to reduce their energy usage Västfastigheter has hired several consulting firms to chart out the energy consumption on each hospital building. The biggest energy savings potential have been calculated and what the cost will be to perform each action. The energy audit have been completed and stand as the decision basis for Västfastigheter’s choice on which action packages that should be implemented. In the report the actions adding insulation and window relacement have been deeply studied and a compilation have been done where the energy savings are set against the cost for each action. The purpose of the report is to invesigate whether it is possible to find key data related to costs in a study of 13 different hospital buildings from the hospitals Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Östra Hospital, The Kärnhospital in Skövde and Södra Älvsborgs Hospital. The different facade materials that have been reviewed are sandwichelements, plaster and brick. With the help of a study of literature, interviews with technical consults, internet searches and reports has a collection of information been made. The result after the compilation shows that the buildings that have plaster facade on Södra Älvsborgs Hospital have the best potential in an energy saving and cost view when adding insulation. The brick facades at Sahlgrenska Universityhospital that were investigated showed also on a good energy saving but to a higher cost as a new brick walls need to be constructed. The sandwichelements that are visible at Östra hospitals buildings had the lowest energysaving due to them already having a good thermal insulation capacity. If window replacement are done the investigation show that Östra hospital and the Kärnhospital in Skövde, with its sandwhichelement facade, show the best energy savings to the lowest cost.
