Today’s loading processes are often inefficient, as loading can only begin once the truck has arrived at the terminal. This results in bottlenecks, longer setup times, and limited potential for optimizing logistic flows. To address these challenges, this project introduces a new concept: the Trailer sleeve. This is a separate, preloaded unit, designed to enable a safer and more controlled loading process that significantly decreases loading time. The objective of the project was to develop a practically feasible Trailer sleeve solution that could be integrated into existing logistics operations. The project was carried out in several phases including the generation of ideas, the identification of needs, technical development, and evaluation. The final output includes several CAD models and assemblies, an economic assessment based on materials and time savings, and a draft to a business model. The freight forwarder is identified as the primary customer. In conclusion, the Trailer sleeve concept demonstrates strong potential to enhance logistical efficiency by significantly reducing loading times, thereby making it possible to complete more trips with fewer vehicles. Additionally, it offers opportunities to improve planning conditions and working environment, as employees gain more time and flexibility when loading goods. However, successful implementation depends on the development of suitable technical solutions, the adaptation of operational processes, and the management of organizational change in a structured and effective manner.
