Abstract
The Sámediggi serves as the principal political institution representing the Sámi people in Norway. It functions as a consultative and representative body on matters concerning Sámi interests, notably language, culture, land use and Indigenous rights. Its legal position and mandate are defined by the Sámi Act, which formally recognises the Sámi as an Indigenous people with the right to preserve and develop their language, culture, and way of life, and explicitly affirms their right to a representative parliament.
