dc.description.abstractThe development of models in the urban water systems together with the increasing availability of real time data is allowing decision makers to evaluate different scenarios and take informed decisions. However, real time data is not always available and easy to get. The increasing use of smart water meters has made it possible to get data for the water distribution systems but for sewer systems it is not possible to have a good representation of the whole system due to the high cost and intensive maintenance of the sensors needed. This thesis defines the interactions between the water distribution and the sewer system, to further suggest methods in which they can be modelled. The idea behind the thesis is to propose methods to reproduce the sewer flows in dry periods based on the demands and leaks from the water distribution network. The aim was to set the basis on how the interactions could be modelled and define the parameters that would need to be adjusted if more accuracy is required.
