| dc.description.abstract | How involved have the Sami people been in different events regarding the Sami? This model explores the differences of unity, symbols and representation for Sami in 102 wooden pieces creating a puzzle in the shape of a circle. The half-circle consists of 52 pieces, which means there are 2 pieces missing to fulfill the full circle of 104 pieces. This symbolizes the exploitation of the indigenous rights. Each piece contains different layers which are different heights creating 39 blocks in total, if the puzzle is put together correctly. In the Sami Parliament in Karasjok there are 39 seats of representatives. Additionally, engravings in the blocks show events and symbols important in the culture and the heights symbolizes the level of involvement in the specific event displayed. The Samediggi building can be divided into 52 pieces creating half a circle, this can also be interpreted as the 52 weeks of the year which the Sami divide into eight seasons guiding the reindeer herding, fishing, hunting and foraging. Matching this number with the number of pieces in the concept model connects it to the building mirroring the segmentation of the structure. | |
