Abstract

With increasing focus on fuel consumption and the emergence of electric vehicles, transmissions are becoming more compact. Park Lock Mechanisms are devices that are fitted to vehicles with an automatic transmission or electric vehicles. This mechanism is in place to prevent the unnecessary movement of the vehicle when the vehicle is brought to a stop. Various types of park locks exist today, two of the commonly used variants are investigated in this thesis. One of the major requirements in designing a park lock mechanism is its engagement speed. The aim of this thesis is to develop a method to parametrise the park lock mechanism and create a common tool program that will help in carrying out the engagement speed analysis of the park lock mechanism.
