Energy supply today is scarce and the demand will continue growing in the next decade. To successfully meet the demand, the world faces new challenges regarding knowledge in renewable energy. This report lifts the problem concerning insufficient knowledge in hydropower technology. The solution regarding the lack of knowledge that this paper investigates is a research and development facility in the area of Forsåker located in Mölndal, Sweden. In addition to the research and development facility a turbine concept, based on an idea conceived by Lars Nilsson, is evaluated to examine if it’s a suitable research project in the facility. The results of the report show that the market for turbines today has not yet reached its full potential. The future looks bright for micro hydropower therefore a research and development facility is a good idea. Furthermore, the paper concludes that a facility is possible to establish in Forsåker. The turbine developed within the project showed an improvement compared to its former design. Regarding if the turbine concept is a suitable project for the research facility. It can be concluded that the turbine shouldn’t be used in the facility before further research is made. The outcomes of this report give a first notion of what can be established in Forsåker. The recommendation for further work is more comprehensive studies regarding the turbine concept and the research and development facility. Preferably studies that discuss each subject separately. A few important delimitations have been made regarding environmental impacts, advanced pipe flow calculations and economical calculations. Keywords: Micro hydropower, hydropower, turbine development, computational fluid dynamics, research facility, market analysis, business model canvas.
