Abstract

This thesis work was written on assignment from RISE IVF and Blomdahls Mekaniska and reports a development of a method to decide the digitizing level of small and medium-size enterprises and as well as application of digitization enhancing technics. The work started with a company visit to eight companies within the research project DIP which was used as a basis for producing a basis for a method for determining the digitizing level of small and medium-sized enterprises. The method was then applied to Blomdahls Mekaniska where the result was a basis for which digitizing enhancing technics would be applied. With the result of the method it was chosen that a work in the area of layout should be done. The work within layout was done using technics as 3D-scanning, point cloud, and simulation. Blomdahls Mekaniska is planning to purchase a new press brake that will replace one of their older ones, the new press brake is considerably larger than the older one and the seller of the machine says it would be able to replace both of their existing press brakes. This part of the work is to find layout proposals where the new press brake will fit with the help of point cloud in the software NavisWorks Manage. Simulation models were developed in the software Plant Simulation, one on the existing production, one with the new press brake together with an existing press brake and one on only the new press brake. This was done in order to be able to compare the productions and see what influence varying batch sizes have on the output. The work with technology with that increase the level of digitalization about layout at Blomdahls Mekaniska. The level increase from 1.84 to 3.54 on a scale from 1 to 5. The theses work did provide Blomdahls Mekaniska with, three different layouts proposal. These proposals have suggested layout proposal for the investment for a new press brake, and a simulation model with a result that visualizes the amount of bending operations with three different setups, with a different combination of press brakes.
