Sammanfattning

The master thesis researches how architecture relates to its production and extraction of natural resources to produce building materials, and explores how this could be done through a holistic and regenerative approach across different scales. In doing so, the thesis explores the theory of regenerative design, highlighting the need for eco-efficiency rather than eco-effectiveness where the circular idea of products as waste is eliminated, and instead seen as food for a renewable cycle. The research covers three filtering species such as blue mussels, eelgrass, and reeds and results in a mapping of their life cycle, biological function, occurrence, physical properties as well as their potential to perform as a building materials. The model showcases the research-based design proposal in the shape of an experience-based restaurant centered around small scale marine farming. The program and building reflects and promotes a sustainable relationship between natural resources and human consumption, and does so in the rurban setting of Stora Dyrön. https://projects.arch.chalmers.se/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/hanstenalexandra_20471_2792414_Ekstr%C3%B6m_Sara_Hansten_Alexandra_RT_MT-2023-Booklet.pdf
