The motion of a fluid interacting with a structure has long been a well known phenomena, but up until recently, the motion of the fluid and the structural responseof the structure has been treated as two separate problems. This approach works well and gives accurate results when there is a insignificant to no deformation of the structure. However, in the case of a hydrofoil, the deformation is significant, and it will change the flow pattern and subsequently the forces acting on the hydrofoil. This paper presents the fluid structure interaction of the NACRA 17 hydrofoil, using a isotropic model and a composite model, and subsequently compare the results generated of the two models. During the project experiments are carried out at the facility’s of SSPA to validate the models. The paper also presents the reverse engineering of the hydrofoil and the verification process of the reverse engineered geometry.sv
