Sammanfattning
Svenska Mässan Gothia Towers is a company where people come to visit exhibitions or stay at the hotel Gothia Towers. In this project a new concept for a recycling unit for the hotel has beendeveloped. The aim of this work was to suggest a solution that offers the possibility to sort waste for hotel guests. The company currently offers no recycling for the guests. However, there are waste types that are sorted out during cleaning of the rooms by the hotel cleaners. Such waste types include bottles and cans included in the return system (deposit), clear and coloured glass, and sometimes larger paper packaging. Given new laws regarding waste handling, the company wants to improve the recycling possibilities and include guests in the process. By understanding the users’ experience of the current waste handling, a new solution was created. The user studies consisted of self observations, surveys for hotel guests, and interviews with cleaners and other stakeholders in the company. The main areas of improvement identified were the need for guests to sort their waste and making the cleaning process easier for the staff. Ideas were generated using different methods including brainwriting, sketching and a morphological matrix. A total of six concepts were considered for evaluation. The evaluation process included sketch modeling and Pugh's matrix. After limiting the options one concept was chosen to be further developed. The chosen concept is a unit with four different fractions. One of the fractions included is a mixed fraction: a combination of deposit, clear and coloured glass packaging. The other three fractions included in the solution are paper packaging, food waste and residual waste. A mock-up was created and tested by cleaners who shared their thoughts on the result. Given these insights a few modifications were made. The addition of wheels was made to enable easier moving of the unit when cleaning the rooms. The updated concept also includes a rounder shape on the inside of the fraction to make cleaning the container easier. Finally the change to decrease the size of two fractions in order to increase the other two was made. This report is written in Swedish.
