Abstract

Since the supersonic passenger airplane Concorde retired the interest in supersonic passenger flights was low. There has recently been an uptick in such interest with multiple startups developing supersonic passanger airplanes. This bachelors thesis is based on the company Boom Technology and the new supersonic airplane, Boom Overture, that they are developing. The main focus is on creating a mathematical model of their newly designed turbofan jet engine, Symphony. Through this model a performance analysis is carried out. The thesis concludes that the engine model does not generate the required thrust for flight at given conditions and that the enviromental impact of Overture will not be as low as they promise. The thesis is however not conclusive as the basis for the designed model is subjected to some degree of uncertainty.
