Sammanfattning

The modern human's best friend is, after all, the chair. It’s not something you really think about, but the majority of human time is spent sitting in a chair. It’s either the chair at the dinner table, the office, or on the bus. The time that is spent sitting down at a chair is for that reason a driving factor for product development of the chair itself. There are hundreds of different competitors that produce innovative chair designs, and they want to stand out from the crowd as being the most advanced and intelligent in the design of comfortability and ergonomics. For this reason, Quokka has started a project that will produce an innovative chair, with ergonomics and design in their main focus. The project itself, ‘’Seating by Quokka’’, started with simplified research taking place with information about what an ergonomic chair is all about. There were also tests that concluded how your sitting posture affects the pressure distribution throughout the lower part of your body. From the data analyzed, a designer at Quokka could then produce a fitting design which would compliment your sitting pattern with such structural contour, that it would significantly lift your ergonomical situation just by the design itself. For this reason, the design of the chair seat itself, was chosen as an utmost optimal functionality, which in turn is supposed to be able to be used in a broad environment of chair usages. Within this stage of the project, I was introduced, which is where the application of implementing this chair for marine environments usage was given to me as a project. With this chair design in focus, it’s meant to be continuously developed until the product itself would be fitting for usage during boat rides. Furthermore, the chair would specifically be made for higher speeds of boat usages, which in turn meant that further development of mechanisms, or functions of the chair would be implemented, whereas a strong factor was the shock absorbing functionality of the chair. This thesis will be written in swedish.
