Sammanfattning

In modern society a large number of dwellings are produced. In conjunction with that, dissatisfied customers have become an extensive problem. When buying or renting a new dwelling the customer expectations are high and unfortunately many dwellings suffer from severe defects such as water leakage, ventilation- and installation problems and defects in the surface layers. Research shows that a significant part of the errors emerge from lack of motivation among the employees. Hence, the purpose of this thesis is to examine how to increase motivation with respect to established theories such as self-determination-theory and Herzberg's two-factor-theory. These theories emphasize that the motivation depends on the general well-being. Due to this knowledge the analysis will mainly focus on how to work towards social sustainability as an instrument to enhance the motivation. A case study with surveys and semistructured interviews was conducted to examine the circumstances regarding the employees' well-being. The conclusion is that, on one hand, it is important to give the construction workers as much freedom as possible to conduct their chores and give support in the form of resources. On the other hand it is important that this freedom does not lead to the feeling of being alone by themselves. It is important to let them know that they belong to the organization and have a close relationship with their leader. The expected results will function as an incentive working towards social sustainability.
