dc.description.abstractDriving a truck is a profession that demands a lot from the driver. The vehicle must be driven safely, schedules must be adhered to, and routes must be planned to make all deliveries on time while minimizing fuel consumption. The instrument cluster in the truck should function as an additional tool to assist the driver in performing their tasks while not diverting any focus from the road. The development of the instrument cluster has progressed rapidly from analog to digital, and Volvo Trucks wants to examine how truck drivers feel about this. Through interviews, user studies, and literature reviews, truck drivers' opinions, needs, requirements, and desires regarding the instrument cluster were mapped out. It was found that usability could be improved as interaction is sometimes perceived as complicated. This resulted in a final concept with a redesigned layout, better cues, and an instruction guide when starting the truck. All this to facilitate navigation in the instrument cluster to find the information that the truck driver needs to perform various tasks. To further develop the concept, more data collection and concept development are important. Since being a truck driver is a profession that will continue to be very important in the future, ongoing research in this area is of the utmost importance.
