Abstract
This project was carried out at the Stena Industry Innovation Laboratory at Chalmers
University of Technology in Gothenburg. The client Volvo Penta wants to run an automated
quality inspection in the last stage of production before sending the products to the clients.
The purpose of this report is to analyze the possibilities of using a vision system to run a
quality inspection in the final department in the production.
Quality inspection is the last step in the production. Because of competitiveness and
globalization quality inspection is one of the most important steps in the production. When
products are completed and ready to send to the clients a quality inspection has to run on
them. Today the quality inspection is done manually of the personals to be sure that
everything is as it should. Considering that a new technology could bring efficiency in
manufacturing, increase productivity and improve ergonomics, an automated quality
inspection seems as a step forward in the modern industry.
Automated quality control in this thesis work will be investigated using collaborative robot
applications UR3e and vision systems Wrist Camera. This experiment with visions system
and even previous studies in this area shows that using an automatic quality inspection is
possible.
