Sammanfattning
Today, the building industry is forced
to face large transformations to be
able to reach the sustainable development
goals set by Agenda 2030.
This includes reducing CO2 emissions,
waste, and introduce a circular
use of materials. Habits of sending
large quantities of usable building
material to landfills are simply not
acceptable in a time of climate crisis.
There are in fact several ways
to retain the value of a material, by
repairing, reusing and recycling, etc.
The purpose of this thesis is to
challenge the conventional way of
building by exploring the possibilities,
and presenting practical ideas,
on how to design for disassembly.
A theoretical comparison of different
prefabrication levels, timber
building systems, and joints will indicate
which buildings methods are
able to prolong the lifespan of a
building and its materials.
The case study housing-project of
the thesis is part of a larger collaboration,
together with RISE, Kiruna
bostäder AB and LTU, made for
the initiative Kiruna Sustainability
Centre. The project is situated in
the new city centre of Kiruna – a
city in the middle of a great urban
transformation.
