Problem There has been a boom lately in e-commerce in Sweden, especially due the Covid-19 pandemic. Companies in the e-commerce field are also facing more questions about sustainability from their customers – something that needs to be thought about in every stage of the process. From a consumer's point of view this is in many cases the packaging which carries the products to your pick-up point or home. Looking at the packaging that corporations send B2C and research how to maximize the fulfillment rate, what different materials there’s on the market and how to choose packaging based on your product in an efficient manner. Aim The report investigates solutions for packing less air when items are moved from warehouse to consumer to promote sustainability on economic, environmental, and social grounds. Theoretical framework The theory chapter outlines the many theoretical perspectives that have been identified as relevant to the study. The chapter is based on past scientific investigations and research that was carefully chosen to provide a reliable foundation and a reference system based on theory on which to conduct the study. Method The study has been a mix of literature study as well as benchmarking and interviewing companies in e-commerce, and consultant companies working with efficient packaging solutions. With the help of these studies and study about the case company the date could be analyzed and present an answer to the research questions. Results and implications Today, there is a lot of the e-commerce transports that consists of empty space due to badly filled shipment boxes. Automation in the area is becoming a more wildly spread thing which enables a more efficient packaging option for B2C packaging. Automation will suit larger companies for their packaging assembly, but smaller companies will also see use in standardizing their packaging sizes based on their orders. There is also modular packaging that can be used to give each box 2-3 different sizes, which allows a higher fulfilment rate for distributions. To get a better overview on how much air is transported, the suggestion is to cooperate with distributors and to measure empty space inside the boxes.sv
